SkyeFitness Squad Highlight: Meagan Bridges!

I am a mom of 4 girls, who are my world! I’m also a 2nd grade teacher in Bangor. When I became a single mom 6 years ago, I started waitressing so my kids could have everything they needed. Having a 2nd job in addition to being a mom and teacher keeps me pretty busy. When Covid started, I stopped waitressing, and last year I worked at Target. During the summer, my family and I managed a beach club together.

Three of my kids play lots of sports, including cheering, soccer, basketball & softball. Sitting on the sidelines watching my kids play is one of my favorite things to do, but I don’t burn many calories doing it. Working out can be difficult to fit in, but I find it is especially important for me to do since I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 11 years ago. Turning 40 last year was extra motivation for me to workout! Choosing SF was easy - Skye and I live in the same neighborhood, and every time I would see her walking her dog, I noticed how fit she was. When I saw on the Fairmount Facebook page that she was opening a studio on Park St., I knew I would be working out with her!

1) Why did you choose personal training as opposed to the millions of free programs online?

For me, personal training is about accountability. I can look up workouts online, but if the workout has something I hate, like burpees, I’ll just skip that part. I don’t do that when I’m working out with Skye! I’ve always liked to play sports, or walk with friends, but I’ve never really liked working out in a gym. Working out with Skye is fun - we’re always laughing (when I can breathe)!

2) What has been your greatest achievement since you've been working out?

Honestly, the greatest achievement was the shift in my attitude. Instead of constantly picking myself apart, I’m now seeing myself as a work-in-progress. It makes it easier for me to celebrate reaching smaller goals and to notice when I’m getting stronger, or when something that was difficult for me at the gym gets easier.

3) What advice would you give someone who is ready to start working out?

I think it’s overwhelming if you try to change too many things at once - you probably can’t completely change your diet and go from the couch to working out five days a week all at once! Start with a reachable goal and build from there. And obviously workout with Skye!

4) What is a fun fact about you we may not know?

My favorite thing to watch when I have free time is reality TV - Hoarders, 90 Day Fiance, and My 600lb Life!

Thank you for sharing your inspiring story, Meagan!
