SkyeFitness Squad Highlight: Kate Henderson
Hello! I’m Kate! Honestly, I’ll answer to just about anything. I’m 30 and currently live in Bangor with my partner of 6 years Jeff. We have three cats: Nola, Nebula, and Burreaux. I’m originally from here however, Jeff is from Cincinnati. We moved back here four years. I’m the manager of a medical office which is fun as surprising as that sounds. I started taking my health seriously this year which has led me to Skye and a lot of great other folks along the way.

1) Why did you choose in-studio personal training as opposed to the millions of free programs online?
I’d heard of Barre a lot. I lived in Cincinnati there were a few studios but they all felt too….unwelcoming? Same when I lived in Portland. It felt like I needed to be of a certain status to join. I saw Skye in a post from my friend Ashley. She told me how great Skye was. I wanted to try something new in my fitness plan so I got a 5 pack class and have been coming every Saturday. There is something about coming into class and catching up with the people from the last class. Checking in and seeing how supportive everyone is of one another. I don’t think I’d get the same feeling in my apartment. The energy of the people around you pushes you to do a little more, try a little harder. There’s nothing I love more than a good challenge.

2) What has been your greatest achievement since you've been working out?
It’s crazy to say everything. Everything is an achievement from where I started. I think it’s the culmination of all of the small moments that lead up to be big moments when you look at it overall. Just seeing how much my body loves me and works me. Truly seeing how much it’s changed by fueling it correctly, working out, taking care of myself for the first time in a very long time. I’m thankful that I’m able to treat it better.

3) What advice would you give someone who is ready to start working out?
Do it for you. It can’t be for anyone else. Do it because it makes you happy, because you can be stronger, more flexible, have better endurance. There are so many reasons to not do it, as there are to work out. You have to want it. That’s the secret, you have to want to do it for you. When you see as well as feel the changes it’s inspiring. You’re inspiring yourself each day you choose to be better than the day before. Small victories. Lifting 5lbs more, walking 5 minutes longer, holding that barre squat a little lower. You are magic and greatness.
4) What is a fun fact about you we may not know?
I’m actually pretty obsessed with football. Both college and NFL. I’m part of a fantasy league with a coworker. I look at stats, I check player rankings, do research before the season on new players. I adore all of it. I only started liking football 4 years ago. My team is the Cincinnati Bengals.
