SkyeFitness Squad Highlight: Jozlyn Fitzwater!

I now live, work, and tend to my small but expanding flower & veggie garden in Winterport with my husband, Ivan, 3 cats and small flock of chicken. My resume includes work as a florist, lifeguard, bartender, finance manager, insurance agent, and currently loan officer for a private firm out of Salt Lake City, Utah. I went to U Maine at Orono, and later to Kennesaw State in Georgia. We relocated to Maine in 2020 and I was thrilled to find wild birds, reptiles, mushrooms, etc. all within our neighborhood walk-abouts. What also excited me was an established Barre studio in Bangor! I signed up in November of 2021 and continue to get stronger every class. I serve on the Board of Director sat Camp Capella in Holden & coordinate the recycling program at the Neighbor's Food Pantry in Winterport. As much as possible, I can be found exploring this beautiful world of ours, listening to live music, and seeking out the glorious few moments of a sunrise or sunset.

1) Why did you choose personal training as opposed to the millions of free programs online?

I run on a treadmill at home and swim laps at the pool, soI needed something that was social. I met Skye and instantly felt connected to her energy & outlook on health and sense of community. I continue to come back because of the way I feel during and after her workouts. It's oftentimes meditative- meaning in those moments where your legs are shaking and sweat is dripping off you, you stay in it and show yourself how strong your mind and body canbecome. Training with other like minded young professionals in this setting is a huge bonus! And btw, did you know Skye is a certified GLUTE instructor?!

2) What has been your greatest achievement since you've been working out?

My skinny jeans are too big and I can do push-ups!

3) What advice would you give someone who is ready to start working out?

Be consistent, remember your WHY and don't be too hard on yourself. Life is pretty fragile, and it's not going to last forever, so I encourage you to see yourself right now & know that you can do and have everything you've ever dreamed. My mantra is this: Before I go to work for someone else, I'm going to do something for myself. And start today - even if you simply take a walk. I would also encourage anyone reading this to find out how much water you should be drinking each day based on your age & weight, and do your best to hit your daily water intake goal.It makes losing weight so much easier. Bottoms up!

4) What is a fun fact about you we may not know?

I love everything about sending hand written cards to my friends and family. What joy I've found in thinking of someone and wishing them well through snail mail!

Thank you for sharing your inspiring story, Jozlyn!
