1) Why did you choose personal training as opposed to the millions of free programs online?
I have always struggled with consistency when it came down to maintaining a regular exercise routine. I got to a place in my life where I was ready to get serious about improving my physical health and I knew that I ABSOLUTELY NEEDED to do something different. I knew that I needed help with developing a routine that would be long-lasting, I was tired of trying to do it on my own. I needed the accountability, and I needed the guidance to ensure that I was doing the safest, most effective exercise for me. As a Black Woman in Maine, I was excited to train with someone who I knew would understand me on a level that is hard to explain if you are not a Person of Color. Her engaging personality and sneaky ways of motivating and pushing me have been a huge plus.
2) What has been our greatest achievement since you've been working out?
I have had a very positive mental shift since I have been working with Skye. I actually WANT to work out now, I miss working out when I have to miss a regular workout day for whatever reason. I actually WANT to do more of her Barre classes. This is new for me and makes me extremely proud of how far I have come in such a short space of time.
3) What advice would you give someone who is ready to start working out?
I would advise that person to really dig deep and figure out your WHY. When you don’t feel like doing another round of HIIT, you will most definitely have to pull from that why. Is this motivation internal? If it is, your chance of success is greater. I would also advise that person to be patient with themselves. Consistency is key and the results will come, you just have to keep working at it.
4) What is a fun fact about you we may not know?
I am currently learning to sew. One of my biggest goals is to make a quilt! Unique goal for a 30 something, but the art of quilting intrigues me and I cannot wait to make my first one.
